Basics
What is TaskLens?
An open-source desktop workspace that turns screenshots, text and locally transcribed voice into editable tasks, events and deadlines.
Is TaskLens free and open source?
The application source is MIT licensed. Optional Groq usage is subject to your own Groq account and its limits; TaskLens does not manage provider billing.
Do I need an account?
No TaskLens account or login backend is required. Optional Groq Cloud requires your own provider account and API key.
How do I report bugs or contribute?
Use the official GitHub repository linked on Contact. Remove personal data from reports. For security issues, follow SECURITY.md and request a confidential channel without publishing sensitive details.
AI & capture
Can TaskLens work offline?
Local AI works with prepared local resources and loopback access. Optional Groq Cloud requires internet. Manual task management does not require cloud inference.
How does screenshot extraction work?
Tesseract reads the image locally. The selected Local AI or Groq provider structures recognized text into suggestions. You review and confirm them before saving.
Can I use voice recordings?
The desktop application supports microphone capture and audio import, with local Whisper transcription. Native capture and package acceptance vary by platform. The website only illustrates transcripts.
What if the internet disconnects?
Local workflows remain available. Interrupted cloud work is not automatically resubmitted locally or remotely. Retained input requires intentional retry and Cloud reactivation after connectivity returns.
Privacy
Is my information stored locally?
Desktop tasks, previews and transcripts use local storage. They are not encrypted. There is no cloud sync or TaskLens login backend. Optional Groq extraction has a separate explicit transmission boundary.
What is sent to Groq Cloud?
Recognized, typed or transcribed text, source-unit identifiers and necessary extraction/date context. Original screenshots, audio, filenames and saved tasks are not included in the extraction request.
Do I need my own Groq key?
Yes, if you choose Groq. Connect and verify it in the native application, then explicitly consent and select Cloud. Never paste credentials into this website demo.
Does the website demo save anything?
No. Sample tasks, edits and settings exist only in React memory. Reset demo or reload restores the initial fictional dataset. It does not record audio, run AI or request credentials.
Installation
Which operating systems are supported?
Linux x86_64, Windows x64 and macOS are intended targets, with different evidence levels. No published installer is verified yet. Consult Platforms for precise build and native-acceptance status.
Organization
Does TaskLens support reminders?
Native reminder delivery is implemented behind explicit activation. Operating-system permissions, background behavior and platform acceptance affect delivery. A submitted notification is not a guaranteed visible banner.
What happens when AI misses information?
Unknown fields remain open for review. Source Trace lets you inspect evidence, and you can correct fields or keep a draft. AI results are suggestions, not verified facts.
Can I edit extracted tasks?
Yes. Review the title, dates, times, location and requirements before confirmation, and reopen saved items to edit them.
Can I export my tasks?
Desktop Settings offers a JSON backup export. Exports are unencrypted. Backup import and cloud sync are unfinished.
